What do you think can be done to increase subcultural understanding? Why do you think people from different subcultures have difficulty with one another?
A subculture is a group of people within another culture that holds different beliefs and lifestyle from the general consensus. Examples of subcultures are bodybuilders, beatniks, hippies, goths.
In order to promote subcultural understanding, the organization should;
· Identify the existent of a subculture by delineating the functions, locations, or department
· Identify the active and inactive culture and subculture
· Confront the group’s beliefs through direct conversation.
· If the developing subculture is positive, the group can be enlisted; it should be eradicated if it is bad
· Identify a unifying agenda. Engage the positive subcultures to design, collaborate, and cooperate with you. The overarching organization agenda is likely to knit them together.
Different subcultures often emerge in situations where there is lacking social cohesion and cooperation.
