since 1500, minorities and women were not considered to participate in major achievements of the U.S. Many suffered due to inequality and slavery. However, there were some changes that occurred during this period up to 1945.

In the 18th century declaration of independance brought about new debates that all men are created equally and U.S constitution pupported to secure freedom for all American people. in the period, women, African Americans, and people without property were not considered. Crusaders againist slavery and racism advocated for the issue of equality before the law irrespective of the race. the also condemned the institution of slavery.

In the 19th century, teritorial expansion raised civil rights issues among those who lost their lands. Women rights convention in 1848 began to fight for women’ s equality. Due to the changes that were brought about by urbanization, industrialization, immigration, and expansion of education created a diverse setting for the equal rights struggle.

In the 20th century, massive social and governmental changes took place in A merica. Women gained voting rights, military service, and increased employment during world war. It brought new hopes for greater equality and economic opportunities among the minorities.

Although many of the African-Americans did not vote for president Franklin Roosevelt, he entertained them especially in the issues pertaining governance. He had a number of blacks who advised him.

Even though in 1940s minorities still suffered discrimination, there was at least some changes especially in the participation of voting rights, job accesibility, and decrease in racial segregation.
