The preamble to the constitutional charter of 1812 was designed by the Society of the War of 1812. The Society of the War of 1812 existed to promote and uphold soppiness and affection of country; to maintain all records concerning a war (accurately labeled as Second War for Independence) compensated by a newborn government to reveal the magnificent conquests attained by our ancestors in such a seemingly unsatisfactory battle. To honor the recollections and preserve the spirit of those who completed the work of the American Revolution and to hand on to future generations a sentiment of respect for their courageous forefathers, who endangered their lives and risked their riches for their nation’s sake.
On February 22nd, 1857, a commission was selected by the Pennsylvania community to draft the Constitution and Statutes at a meeting.
The commission informed back at the conference of July 4th, 1857, and their work was approved, generating a lasting organization acknowledged as the Soldiers and Defenders of the War of 1812. As had been prepared at every assembly of the veterans, Judge Joel Sutherland was nominated President of the Society under the new constitution’s positions. Judge Joel Sutherland was the main key speaker and was addressing the war veterans.
